“Angels Among Us”
Thursdays: Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, 21
Join us on Thursday evenings at 7:30 for an Advent Scripture Study, Discussion and Prayer. Each week we’ll look together at the scriptures for the following Sunday, and use the work of researcher/storyteller/social worker Dr. Brene Brown. You can come every week, or as your schedule allows. We’ll meet in the Fireside Room. Here are the focus scriptures for each week:
Nov. 30 Luke 1:5-25, 57-80 (scripture for Dec. 3 in worship)
Dec. 7 Luke 1:26-56 (scripture for Dec. 10 in worship)
Dec. 14 Matthew 1:18-25 (scripture for Dec. 17 worship)
Dec. 21 Luke 2:1-20 (scripture for Dec. 24 worship)
The angels that appear in the scriptures stories of Jesus’ birth would have been very comfortable in our world of tweets and hashtags. Their messages were often short and to the point–their favorite line being #DoNotBeAfraid. As we look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds and their reactions to them, we will contemplate what messages we can offer that will counteract a culture of fear and bring #morehope, #morepeace, #morejoy, and #morelove to the world.
