Christmas Outreach Opportunities

Each year Trinity provides many ways (big and small) to reach out to others during the Christmas season. Consider participating in one or more activities during Advent.

WINGS is a local program offering services to women and their children in the north and northwest suburbs who have been victims of domestic violence. Names have already been selected and gifts need to be at church by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 6th.
If you did not have the opportunity to buy a gift for an individual, their safe house needs other donations all year long. Some of the needed items are: boys and girls PJ’s (2T-5T and 10-14), women’s PJ’s (large and up), slippers (women and children), twin comforters and XL twin sheet sets, diapers (size 5 and 6) and pull ups (sizes 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5). A more extensive wish list is on the table. Place items in the blue WINGS bin in the narthex.

Our local food pantries are always in need of food to help families that are experiencing hard times. Bring can goods and non-perishable items and place them in the food pantry bin in the narthex.

The emphasis again this year is on decorating the tree in the narthex with items to keep our PADS guest warm during the cold winter. Many of our PADS guests walk miles each day from one site to another. They are especially in need of heavier gloves (like ski gloves), hand and toe warmers (that are inserted into their gloves or socks), thermal underwear and men’s underwear (size medium and large), men’s undershirts (size large and XL). We are also collecting warm hats, scarves and gloves for needy children.

Order gift cards from our MANNA program for yourself or others. Some cards are available for immediate purchase and others can be ordered weekly until Dec. 11th and picked up the following week. Cards start as low as $5 and Trinity receives a small percentage of each sale. You can also buy grocery, drug store or gas gift cards and specify that they be given to people in need in our community.

Heifer International honor cards (Christmas, general, memorial) are available on the table in the narthex. Make a donation and send a card to those who are “hard to buy for” this Christmas. Just select a card and then put the donation into a Rainbow Covenant
envelope, check off Heifer Project International and place it in the offering plate on Sunday morning.
For more than 70 years and currently in 30 countries, Heifer provides livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. Recipients of the animals “pass on the gift” by donating one or more of their animal’s offspring to another family in need

BACKPACK3Backpack Ministry
There are students at Robert Frost School in Mt. Prospect who are hungry on weekends. Be part of the Backpack Ministry and donate items they can take home on the weekend such as canned soup, beef stew, spaghetti, fruit and vegetables. Other suggestions are peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, packets of oatmeal, and granola bars.
Journeys – The Road Home
A wish list for items needed for the homeless is on the table in the narthex.

Consider volunteering once or twice this year or as much as once a month. There still is a critical need for 2nd and 3rd shift on Friday nights. The sign up book is in the narthex each Sunday or contact Karen Harnish (PADS Site Director) 847-494-8448.
