Congratulations to our 2009 Fine Arts Scholarship Winners

The Trinity Fine Arts Committee is happy to announce the winners of the Shirley Fritz Memorial Scholarship for 2009. This year the scholarship has been awarded to John Desai and Tim Kennedy. Each will receive $300 to continue their studies in the Fine Arts.

John, a sophomore at Prospect High School, is very active in the music department, participating in jazz, marching and concert bands, as well as choir. Auditions for chamber and show choirs are coming up. John is an active scout in Troop 117 working on many service projects for our church.

Tim, a junior at New York University double majoring in journalism and cinema studies, won two all-state awards for his writing skills while at Hersey High School. He began his musical career as a band percussionist and went on to become an accomplished pianist. His focus now is on the guitar.

Daniel Burnham - Make No Little Plans

The City of Chicago rose from the ashes of the Fire of 1871 to the remarkable White City of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition.  Mr. Burnham narrates a slide program detailing the Chicago Fire of 1871, the building of the 1893 World's Columbian Exhibition, and the Chicago Plan of 1909 outlining the development plan for the city. The famed architect discusses his innovative buildings: Montauk, Monandnock, Reliance, and the Rookery, and presents the historic Burnham Plan of 1909 advocating sensible city growth asking, “How are we living?" .  A selection of original 1893 World’s Fair souvenirs  is available for display.

RJ Lindsey Biography

American history comes to life in the capable hands of historical dramatist R.J. Lindsey.  Through extensive research, a meticulous attention to detail and the use of only documented speeches, letters and anecdotes, a vivid living portrait emerges.

Thirty years of experience as a, researcher, writer and actor have contributed to the success of the living history programs which have been seen from Jerusalem to London to the Democratic National Convention.

Due to Lindsey’s experience, organizations now commission him to create historical figures:  Evanston Historical Society for Vice-president Charles Dawes; Rockford Midway Museum for Dr. James Breasted; Rotary One Chicago for founder Paul Harris.

Specially written Franklin Roosevelt programs have appeared at the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.  At the “Christmas in the White House” special exhibit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Museum in Springfield, Lindsey’s voice as FDR was heard reading “A Christmas Carol.”

Lindsey also draws upon a rich family history as a descendant of ancestors who served in the Virginia militia during the Revolution in 1776, settled the Great Plains by covered wagon and joined the Kansas Volunteers during the Civil War. As a theatrical professional Lindsey has appeared on stage and television.  His television credits include: She Stood Alone, Fatal Judgment, Will.

Stage roles include:  Elwood in Harvey, Escalus in Measure for Measure, Shrike in Miss Lonelyhearts, Murray in A Thousand Clowns, Frederick in Noises Off and Rev. Parris in The Crucible.

Lindsey earned a Masters degree from Illinois State University and is a member of Actor’s Equity, the Screen Actor’s Guild, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
