Outreach Opportunities

Collection of non-perishable food items is a continuing need as the food pantries strive to keep up with the increasing demand.  Please place your donations in or around the Little Red Wagon in the Narthex.

Donations for WINGS may be placed in the collection box in the Narthex.  A list of needed items is on the table above the box.

Rainbow Covenant

Thanks to the generous support of the members and friends of Trinity we met all of the goals of the Rainbow Covenant.  A detailed report covering the year from January 01 to December 26 is displayed on the Outreach bulletin board by the church office.  Additional donations were received after that report which fulfilled all of the goals.

United Methodist Men’s Meeting May 19th

8:00 A.M- BREAKFAST AT ELLY’S PANCAKE HOUSE, 372 E GOLF ROAD, 847-364-4400.

9:00 AM – PROGRAM IN THE NARTHEX:

Presenting Barbara Binns, Trinity’s very own published author. This exciting meeting will include details on how she obtained research, and became an author of a recent publication, “PULL”.  She will also share other insights of her very interesting life.

A. Binns is the pseudonym for Barbara Binns, a twenty-five year member of Trinity United Methodist Church. The short stories and novels written by this Arlington Heights resident feature a combination of family drama, intrigue and suspense.

She is a member of the American Library Association, the Chicago Writers Association, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Romance Writers of America and The Writing Place at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. She is a graduate of Hyde Park High School in Chicago, and earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin (B. S.) and DePaul University (M. S.). She is a cancer survivor who volunteers at the Arlington Heights Senior Center and Trinity Methodist Church in Mt. Prospect. Her short stories are frequently featured in the Arlington Almanac.

Her first novel, PULL, dealt with the effect of domestic violence on children. The American Library Association (ALA) named her debut Young Adult novel, PULL (ISBN #978-193481343-0), to the 2012 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers list in January 2012. The book tackles the effects of both spousal abuse and child sexual abuse on family members. PULL also won the National Readers Choice Award in 2010, and has been nominated for the Elliot Rosewater Indiana High Book Award. Her follow-up novel, BEING GOD, deals with teen alcoholism. BEING GOD will be published in Nov. 2012.

Weed N Water Nights

The gardening season has started again at Trinity. We will continue doing our Weed N Water nights on Tuesdays from 6:15 to dusk. We will begin with May 15 and 29. As in the past we will plant whatever is left from the UMW plant sale. During the months of June, July, August and September we will work on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month (and possibly the 5th Tuesdays). Make your calendar and come when you are able.

As you are working in your own gardens in the next couple of weeks and thinning out your own plants, think about donating the extras to the UMW sale if it is something different than what is already being sold. Just put them in small pots or containers and label them. Bring them to church early on the day of the sale – May 12. Whatever is sold is pure profit.
