PANEL 5

After the Ascension, on the feast of Pentecost, the faithful were gathered in an upper room. The Holy Spirit came to them with the sound of a mighty rushing wind, and over each countenance appeared a tongue of flame.

There are seven such flames in the fifth window, symbolizing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (Revelation Chapter 7), blessimg, glory, wisdom, thanskgiving, honor, power and might. Combined with this is the ship of the Church kept afloat through the storms of schism and heresy by the mast with a chi rho - Jesus Christ, who is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. In the water next to the ship is a fish, an ancient pagan symbol used by the persecuted Christians to divert suspicion. A rebus was made of the Greek word for fish. Each letter is the initial of a word in the phrase "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."
