This Sunday in worship I look forward to welcoming folks from ChildServ, a United Methodist-related organization serving vulnerable children and families in Northern Illinois. Dan Kotowski, Chair and CEO of ChildServ, and Kim Coffing, Director of Community Relations and Advocacy, will join us to say a word of thanksgiving for our congregation’s commitment ot ChildServ, and to also speak more extensively at the 9:15 Current Issues class.
Life is complicated–sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves to focus on what is most important. So–this Sunday also begins a three week sermon series on the “Three Simple Rules” of a Methodist way of living: 1. Do No Harm 2. Do good 3. Stay in love with God.
I’ve been encouraged by one of the focus bible verses for this series, from Galatians 3:13 (The Message Version): “God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows.”
