“What A Ride”

Peder Eide

Peder Eide

During September, we are using Peder Eide’s “What a Ride” as our praise song for the month.  This coming Sunday (September 18) our praise band Infinite Journey will be leading us.

Those of you who have been with us know what an interesting song it is.  Eide has written a Christian carpe diem (seize the day) kind of song.

I want to shine like a light in the darkness

I want to spray my share of sparks

I want to serve like Mother Teresa

Sit up front like Rosa Parks

All the way til my final day

I want to live so I can say

What a ride, yeah, yeah

What a ride, oh yeah

I want to hear a song like Mozart

See like Van Gogh on a starry night

I want to tell a tale like Tolkien

Tell what’s true, what’s wrong, what’s right

All the way til my final day

I want to live so I can say

What a ride, yeah, yeah

What a ride, oh yeah

I want to take a step like Neil Armstrong

Dive as deep as Jacques Cousteau

I want to be where the Spirit leads me

Only stop when the world says go.

I want to celebrate all I’m lacking

I want to elevate joy to an art

Overcome like Helen Keller

See with my soul, hear with my heart

All the way til my final day

I want to live so I can say

What a ride, yeah, yeah

What a ride, oh yeah

I want to fix my eyes on heaven

I want to please the great “I Am.”

Live Life to the FullestI think that this is a great message for us to kick off our 2011-2012 Church program year.  To be inspired by all of the folks who lived life to the fullest and made a difference.  To live life to the fullest ourselves, and to dedicate that life to Christ.  These are qualities that we can carry through this year and beyond through the power of the Holy Spirit so that, when we come to May, we can say “What a ride.”

I hope you will be along for the ride.
